Persona Under Construction

My entrance into the technical writing community will be through the instruction of curious individuals looking for ideas in DIY and healthy cooking from scratch. The two parts of my focus may not immediately seem interconnected, however, these are the things I am an expert in because I have learned how to live frugally by employing these techniques. Also, I simplify projects and instructions because that is how I am able to successfully complete my own projects.

Creating My Professional Persona

Generally, I would not share projects with anyone until they are complete and I have lovely before and after photos, but here is my blog site The Learning Season. I have also created a professional email, [email protected]. I am hoping that I can connect and help others who believe that every season can be the learning season.

For my website, I used Bluehost and Wordpress.org and went with the Kadence theme. There are lots of YouTube videos for instruction in these but I would love if someone could point me in the direction of the easiest-to-understand and most complete tutorial.

Starting to Write

The most difficult writing so far was for the Home and About pages. My next step was to brainstorm about fifty topics that I would like to write about on my blog. The easiest way for me to achieve this was by scrolling through my camera roll and finding before and after photos for home renovation projects, although these were not representative of professional photography. I also found photos of various meals I have created, canning projects with homegrown foods to preserve the harvest, and breads and pastries that I made for family and friends. The last group of topics I would like to write on was everything on my to-do list. Garage organization, a custom closet organizer, guest room headboard, cedar raised garden beds... so many projects that I need to tackle!

Technical Stuff

I have learned very quickly that my photography is subpar and I need to spend more time improving accessibility in mobile vs. desktop views. In this type of technical writing, I will build credibility by having clear photos that align with step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow with simple tools and little practice. The way I plan to achieve this on new projects is by documenting my progress from start to finish and having my husband review the steps from the viewpoint of a beginner.

Another part of my learning on the technical side includes assigning keywords, checking readability, and SEO. I also need to look for ways to get my website seen, which will likely involve me venturing into the social media world.

Remaining neutral can require carefully picking the topics or projects that I tackle. Depending on the topics I choose for my writing, there is a possibility that I will need to add some legal language. Legal protections are especially necessary when sharing instructions or recipes for canning, which can be highly controversial in the online community. Eventually, if I enjoy the blogging world and have readers searching for my content, I would consider the income potential in the industry.

My Goal as a Blogger

As a new blogger, my goal is to create instructions and recipes that will help my readers. I will follow my own instructions to ensure that I am providing high-quality, accurate information and be available if there are questions or concerns. My content will require a clear, and beautiful presentation without additional fluff.
